Although he’s well known for his sci-fi roots, it looks as though director Ridley Scott will never make a comic book movie. But will he ever change his mind?
During an interview with IGN Movies, the iconic sci-fi director explained why he’s never been tempted to take on a comic book movie.
“I’ve had a lot of opportunities and I tend not to do that,” he revealed. “They’re the hardest single thing to write. Taking a comic strip character is very hard to write. Because comics are meant to work in one page, to work in frames with minimalistic dialogue.”
Of course, I can’t help thinking that Scott would make an impeccable comic book movie, even if he isn’t that interested. But what’s the biggest concern he has about bringing a comic book to the big screen?
“A lot of it is left to the imagination of the reader,” he added. “To do that in film you’ve got to be a little more explanatory. And that requires a good screenplay and good dialogue.”
But could he ever be convinced to change his mind?
I can’t help thinking he’d make an ideal director for one of Warner Bros. upcoming superhero movies. And with a large range to choose from, perhaps one of the more sci-fi based films would be more up his street?
I am, of course, thinking of either Cyborg or the Green Lantern solo movie. Steeped in sci-fi action, I’m sure he’d make an excellent go of these more obscure DC stories. And with the movies not due until 2019 and 2020, perhaps there’s still time to convince him…
