Actress Robin Wright has landed a role in Blade Runner 2.
According to Variety, the 49-year-old actress has landed a key role in the upcoming Blade Runner movie – a sequel to the sci-fi classic.
“Robin Wright is in final negotiations to join Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Alcon’s ‘Blade Runner’ sequel,” they revealed. “Ford is reprising his role of detective Rick Deckard with ‘Sicario’ helmer Denis Villeneuve directing. The untitled film will bow Jan. 12, 2018.”
Robin Wright is perhaps best known for the role of Clare Underwood in the hit TV series, House of Cards. But she’s also due to appear in the upcoming comic book movie, Wonder Woman as Antiope – the titular hero’s Amazonian auntie.
And it looks as though Robin Wright’s casting has been on the cards for some time.
“The studio had been after Wright for some time, but her complicated House of Cards schedule made it look unlikely that she would be available. Sources indicate Alcon was able to work out schedule issues and a deal is expected to close.”
But who will she be playing in the Blade Runner sequel?
“It is unknown who Wright will be playing,” they revealed, “and also unknown if she will be playing a human or droid.”
“The story, written by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green and based on a story by Fancher and Ridley Scott, continues several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original — which was set in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles.”
Could she be the sequel’s version of Pris Stratton – the iconic ‘pleasure model’ replicant who was played by Daryl Hannah in the original movie? Will she take a more Rachael-esque role alongside Harrison Ford’s Deckard?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Blade Runner 2 heads to cinemas on 12 January 2018.
