After the critical success of both Hellboy and The Golden Army it looks as though Ron Perlman wants to reprise his role… but will Hellboy 3 ever happen?
It’s no secret that Ron Perlman is desperate to make another Hellboy movie. After all, he’s been lobbying the cause for some time already. But now the 64-year-old actor admits that he is still fighting for a third Hellboy film. And admits that it’ll take Del Toro’s return to the franchise to make it happen.
During an interview with DJ Tony Tone, Hellboy himself revealed that he’s still fighting for a third movie to be made.
“I’m fighting for it,” he admitted. “Guillermo Del Toro kind of wants to do it, but he’s very busy. It’s got to be him, because he’s the guy that created the saga, and the shape of it, and he knows how it’s supposed to end. But yeah, I think it’s essential that we end it, because it was meant to be three movies, so I’m fighting for it, but there’s nothing to report right now.”
Of course, Jeffrey Tambour – who plays Tom Manning in Hellboy – recently hinted that perhaps there was a chance of seeing a third movie sometime soon.
“Oh my god,” he said during an appearance on The Colbert Report. “There is actually talk of a Hellboy 3. But they better hurry or I am going to be in a walker.”
Unfortunately, it looks as though his enthusiasm for the project doesn’t necessarily mean that anything is happening… and with Del Toro locked into a Pacific Rim sequel, it could be a while before he returns to Hellboy.
But as Perlman explains, the Hellboy franchise was supposed to be a trilogy. Will the studio be able to coax Del Toro back into the director’s chair? We certainly hope so. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
