Anthony and Joe Russo will direct the highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War.
Revealed over at the official Marvel website, it looks as though the rumours were true…
“Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.”
The Russo Brothers directed the Marvel smash-hit, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Now, they will direct the highly-anticipated sequel, Captain America: Civil War.
But now it looks as though the Russo brothers will be extending their grip on the Marvel universe, by directing the franchise’s flagship property… and it’s probably the biggest event to hit the Marvel Universe yet.
“The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, one of the top-grossing films from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3.”
Civil War marks a landmark moment for the MCU.
But it’s Infinity War which presents the culmination of every Marvel movie so far.
Infinity War will mark the end to Marvel’s Phase 3, although little is known about it.
Although, it is thought to be based around the Infinity Gauntlet storyline from the comic books.
It’s likely that we’ll finally find out what Thanos has been up to all these years.
But will The Avengers be able to stop him? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 heads to cinemas on 27 April 2018.
