Simon Pegg Spotted On Star Wars VII Set

It appears that Simon Pegg was spotted on the Star Wars VII set during filming in Abu Dhabi… but does this mean what we think?

2nd March 2015 by Ryan Leston

Simon Pegg

After rumours that Simon Pegg would appear in Star Wars it looks as though he was spotted on set during filming… but does this mean what we think?

During an interview with The National, helicopter pilot Andy Nettleton (who worked on the film in Abu Dhabi) revealed that he saw the British actor on set.

“We sat on the next table to J.J. Abrams and [British actor] Simon Pegg,” he revealed “I was standing at the salad counter getting my lettuce and cucumber, and Simon Pegg was standing next to me. It’s a strange experience – they look like normal human beings then in the movies they’re put under this spotlight.”

Taron Egerton Up For Star Wars Spin-Off Role?

Simon Pegg has already admitted that his visited the Star Wars VII set in London… but this seems to be the first confirmation that he headed out on location with his good pal, J.J. Abrams

“Of course I visited the set,” he said in June last year. “It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening.” But he was obviously quick to dispel any rumours that he might turn up on screen. “It looks wonderful and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.”

But could there be a bit more to it than that?

Despite the fact that filming finished last year, we could yet see Simon Pegg appear in the galaxy far, far away. After all, security was extremely tight during production, and that means we could be in for a few surprises.

Of course, that’s not all that pilot Andy Nettleton had to say, and even gave us a hint about the use of CGI during Star Wars VII production.

“They’ll show you very detailed CGI of the scene they’re wanting and how the finished scene needs to look,” he said. “You look at raw footage on the monitors and actually see how it’s done. We flew through the desert in different locations for Star Wars, and they computer-generated a chase scene with starships superimposed. They show you a clip of what the finished movie will look like.”

Obviously, we’ll have to wait until December to find out how that incredible chase scene looks. But one big question remains – will Simon Pegg appear in ‘Star Wars VII’?

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
