Although Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man deal is said to have fallen through, Peter Parker might yet find himself among the Avengers in the upcoming Infinity War.
It’s no secret that Marvel and Sony were trying to broker a deal which would allow for a Spider-Man cameo in The Avengers. At least, it’s no secret after the recent Sony Pictures hack. But while we thought the deals had broken down, it looks as though there might be hope yet… as some new e-mails reveal discussions for a cameo in Avengers: Infinity War.
Tim Burton Bored Of Marvel Comic Book Movies
According to a number of e-mails between Amy Pascal and Sony Chief Executive Officer Michael Lynton (via Val Broeksmit), everyone’s favourite webslinger may star in Avengers: Infinity War.
“Tony recruited [Spider-Man],” it reads. “Gave him the suit… he is now back at home with Aunt May in Queens and back in high school. It will not necessarily be a story from the Civil War saga but exist in the universe where superheroes are divided into two groups.”
Obviously, this seems to explain that Captain America: Civil War will leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a very different state… and won’t simply be the storyline of a single movie. And it looks as though it might even inform Sony’s very own Spider-Man franchise.
But what about the intended Marvel cameo?
“Avengers 3 and 4 or part one and two are going to be released May 2018 and 2019. Their ask is that he be in both of those movies. We need to guarantee that a second standalone ‘Spider-Man’ movie happens in 2019 at least so that is not too long in between standalone [Spider-Man] movies.”
Obviously, that’s some pretty ambitious plans to include Spider-Man in Infinity War – the culmination of Marvel’s long-terms plans and presumably the epic stand-off between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the awesome power of Thanos.
But will this actually happen?
Will Hugh Jackman Be In X-Men: Apocalypse?
Although it sounds as though there may be some new discussions taking place between Marvel and Sony, we still can’t assume anything. The nature of the Sony Pictures hack has really tipped the company on its head… and that could mean that any negotiations are being held off for the time being.
Still… it sounds as though there’s hope yet that Peter Parker will join the ranks of The Avengers. And that’s just about the coolest thing I can think of.
