Spider-Man may have almost found its Peter Parker as the shortlist falls to just two names.
According to Devin Faraci at Badass Digest, the shortlist has been whittled down to just Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland.
“The final two contenders for Spider-Man are Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland, I am hearing,” he said. “It was down to 2 last week.”
Of course, all eyes have been on Spider-Man since the reboot was announced to be jointly helmed by Sony and Marvel… and with a new, teenaged Spider-Man expected to appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War it seems casting has to be sorted fairly quickly.
But just recently, the rumoured shortlist included five young actors… and now it seems that Marvel and Sony are moving fast to get their Peter Parker in the bag.
Asa Butterfield is perhaps best known for starring in the recent sci-fi flick, Ender’s Game, but has also appeared in the likes of Hugo and X+Y.
Tom Holland on the other hand, is perhaps best known for his stint in Billy Elliot: The Musical but has also appeared on the big screen in Locke and How I Live Now.
But will either of them land the role of Spider-Man?
Although recent reports make it sound as though the casting is now in the bag, it’s entirely likely to see a complete outsider nab the coveted role.
After all, Chris Evans was never once mentioned on the shortlist for Captain America.
Still, I can’t help thinking that Asa Butterfield would be an inspired choice.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
The next Spider-Man movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
