The Stand Film Will Be In Four Parts

The Stand is finally heading to our screens… but it’s going to be an epic four part story.

November 21, 2014 by Ryan Leston

The Stand is coming to the big screen... in 4 parts.

It’s been years in the making and now The Stand is finally heading to our screens… but it’s going to be an epic four part story.

In an interview with Kevin Smith on Hollywood Babble-On, director Josh Boone revealed that while Warner Bros had planned a big, Hollywood blockbuster, the studio eventually gave in and decided to give him another offer…

“They came back and said ‘would you do it as multiple films?’ and I said ‘fuck yes!’,” he revealed. “I loved my script, and I was willing to drop it in an instant because you’re able to do an even truer version that way. So I think we are going to do like four movies.”

Of course, writer of the original book Stephen King has previously hinted that the movie might be split into several parts, revealing to MTV that the adaptation might take more than a three-hour movie.

But what can we expect from this rather hefty adaptation?

“I can’t tell you anything about how we’re going to do them, or what’s going to be in which movie. I’ll just say we are going to do four movies, and we’re going to do ‘The Stand’ at the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds. We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring.”

Stephen King’s original novel focusses on two groups of survivors after a global pandemic… and their attempts to struggle through and rebuild. Of course, it also introduces the despicable Randall Flagg – a supernatural entity that has become one of King’s most defining villains.

Of course, the big screen adaptation is likely to follow King’s original story to some degree, but quite how closely remains to be seen. And with no official release date, it could be some time before we find out.

Do you think The Stand deserves longer screen time? Will four movies be enough to tell the whole story? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
