Star Wars 7: Gwendoline Christie Is Captain Phasma

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie suits up in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars 7 Captain Phasma Gwendoline Christie

The identity of the Star Wars VII chrome trooper has finally been revealed… and it’s none other than Gwendoline Christie.

Appearing as part of Vanity Fair’s latest issue, a new picture of the formidable First Order Stormtrooper Captain has confirmed that it’s Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie beneath the armour.

And rather cool she looks, too.

“First Order officer Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) surveys the rubble following an attack,” reads the caption.

Of course, Gwendoline Christie was rumoured for the Star Wars role long before the character’s name was officially announced… and the name itself even appeared online during a round of leaks which seem to have blown open the Star Wars VII production.

In fact, even the chrome trooper armour was seen online long before the character debuted in the second official teaser trailer.

Rumoured to be pursuing Finn (played by John Boyega) after he deserts the First Order to take up with the resistance, it seems that those rumours are now probably true. But how this all plays out on the big screen is another matter entirely.

Of course, we’re yet to see what she looks like underneath the helmet… and that’s likely to be kept under wraps for some time.

Still, this new look at Captain Phasma gives us a much better glimpse at the stunning chrome armour… and complete with that rather menacing cloak, it’s a striking look which absolutely fits in with the new, First Order aesthetic.

But what’s so special about Captain Phasma?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But will that armour be lightsaber resistant? I get the feeling we’ll find out soon enough.

Star Wars VII heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.

What do you think Captain Phasma? Will the new chrome armour be more than just a design choice? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
