Star Wars 8 Officially Called The Last Jedi

It’s official – Star Wars 8 is actually called Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

It’s official – Star Wars 8 is called The Last Jedi.

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens appeared in cinemas, we’ve been wondering what’s going to happen next in the galaxy far, far away. The Force has awoken, the galaxy is in turmoil once more. And after finding Luke Skywalker, it looks as though Rey has tracked down the Last Jedi

Pretty neat, huh?

The news was announced earlier via StarWars.com by the folks at Disney and Lucasfilm, in an article which paid tribute to the sci-fi franchise’s ever-faithful fans.

“We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy,” they said. “In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.”

Accompanying the news was the first teaser image – a poster of sorts which unveiled the newly red-tinged logo… which seems to be a first for the Star Wars franchise.

But what does it all mean?

Long-time fans will no doubt be aware that at this point in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, Luke Skywalker seems to be the very Last of the Jedi. He was certainly the last Jedi by the end of ‘Return of the Jedi’ and after going into hiding between then and ‘The Force Awakens’, it seems he’s the last of his kind once more.

But could there be more than one Last Jedi?

The big giveaway – the plural for ‘Jedi’ is ‘Jedi’.

What does that mean? We’ll, there could be two last Jedi… meaning that Skywalker takes on another apprentice in the upcoming sequel. No prizes for guessing who that could be.

Will Rey become one of the Last Jedi along with Luke Skywalker? Or will she become the sole Jedi left by the end of the film?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But if you ask me, it’s a great title.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi heads to cinemas on 17 December 2017.
