Suicide Squad: Jared Leto’s Joker Revealed

Suicide Squad finally unveils its Joker.

25th April 2015 by Ryan Leston

Suicide Squad The Joker Jared Leto

Jared Leto’s version of The Joker has finally been unveiled… as the actor prepares for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.

It’s no secret that The Joker will be appearing in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie – a film about some of DC’s most celebrated villains, who are forced to take on high-stakes jobs for the US government. But after plenty of ‘in progress’ shots were revealed depicting Jared Leto’s villainous transformation, it seems it’s time to get a good look at the new Joker.

And he already looks rather unhinged…

Appearing on Twitter, director David Ayer revealed this first look at The Joker, to celebrate the character’s 25th anniversary.

“The Suicide Squad wishes you a Happy Anniversary Mr. J!” he said.  “#Joker75 #SuicideSquad”

And the attached image shows Jared Leto in his full Joker makeup.

Obviously, this punky new look has already proved to be rather divisive – with many fans appalled by the new look, when compared to Heath Ledger’s take on the iconic villain. Of course, such comparisons were inevitable… and we know that Warner Bros. and DC can’t please everyone.

But personally… I just can’t get on board with this new look.

Plastered in tattoos and appearing shirtless, it’s quite a transformation when we consider some of the more classic Joker looks. And with the word ‘damaged’ tattooed on his forehead, I can’t help thinking it’s just a little too much.

Of course, the tattoos are clearly a homage to the comic books – with the words “HA HA HA” seemingly taken from an iconic panel in the seminal graphic novel, The Killing Joke.

Now, there’s already been plenty of talk amongst fans that this might not be the final look of Jared Leto’s new Joker… and that perhaps the image is meant only as a celebration of DC’s most recognisable villain.

Could we see another look for the new Joker? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I wouldn’t count on it.

Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.

What do you think of this first official image of the Joker? Will this be his look for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
