Classic Batman villain Hugo Strange might appear in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie… but in what capacity?
It’s no secret that Suicide Squad is a regular rogue’s gallery for the DC universe… and with a number of Batman regulars already showing up on the squad, it looks as though they could be joined by another – Professor Hugo Strange.
According to the Latino Review’s Umberto Gonzalez, the DC supervillain could feature in the upcoming movie… and he’s apparently attending to The Joker.
“I’m also told The Joker has a lot of scenes with HUGO STRANGE,” said Gonzalez via Instagram. “He’s the psychiatrist at the prison & seems to be a part of the story yet I heard nothing of casting or mention of a single casting choice. Hugo Strange has quite a few interactions with the Joker & Harley Quinn.”
Of course, in the Post-Crisis comic books Hugo Strange began life as a psychiatrist brought in by Gotham PD to help catch The Batman… and has been linked to Belle Reve Penitentiary over the years.
It seems as though this link may prove to be useful in introducing Strange to the DC cinematic universe… and it sounds as though he could well be influenced by the antics of The Joker and Harley Quinn.
But will he become a villain in the Suicide Squad movie?
I can’t help thinking that there are plenty of villains in Suicide Squad already… given that the entire squad revolves around some less-than-savoury characters. And with the likes of Deathstroke and Onslaught rumoured to be the villains of the movie, it might just be a step too far.
If you ask me, it’s more likely that this is a cameo role, setting up a larger appearance elsewhere in DC’s film slate. That is, if this appearance pans out.
Will he appear in the movie? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
