Suicide Squad Movie Confirmed?

The Suicide Squad is heading to the big screen for their very own movie… but will it be any good?

20th September 2014 by Ryan Leston

Suicide Squad

Although a Suicide Squad TV series has been rumoured for some time, it looks as though DC’s rogues gallery could be heading to the big screen instead…

It’s perhaps one of the most controversial elements of the DC universe – a group of super villains undertaking high-risk black-ops for the US government. Think of it as the A-Team, if they’d been convicted of a crime they did commit. Featuring some impressive villains such as Harley Quinn, Deadshot and even the Joker’s Daughter, it’s a veritable rogue’s gallery. And it seems they’ll be teaming up for a big screen adaptation.

Batman V Superman: Batmobile In Action

“Director David Ayer is the choice to direct Suicide Squad based on the DC comic book series,” said Variety. “It is unknown where things stand in the deal-making process as Warner Bros. would not comment, but sources say the studio feels Ayer is a good fit for the dark and edgy film.”

Of course, the Suicide Squad doesn’t include any of the hard-hitting heavyweights of the DC universe… you certainly won’t find Lex Luthor or The Joker amongst their ranks. But with a wide range of supporting villains amongst them, it’s easy to see how the Suicide Squad film might weave in and out of DC’s rapidly expanding movie universe. Especially when it comes to Harley Quinn and the Batman franchise.

But which villains will make the squad?

Over the years, we’ve seen a number of different Suicide Squads… each with their very own line-up. But with the popularity of the New 52 version, I can’t help thinking that Deathstroke and Harley Quinn are practically guaranteed.

Who will play these villains on screen is another matter entirely… and it all depends on what kind of style director David Ayer is going for. Known for rather gritty dramas such as End of Watch and Training Day it looks as though his take on the Suicide Squad will likely fit in well with the presumably gritty Batman V Superman universe.

DC: Worst Casting Decisions So Far

But with very few details, it looks as though we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think DC needs to make a Suicide Squad movie? Who would you like to see as your favourite DC villains? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
