Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Superman’s cousin Kara! And it looks as though she’s finally returning to our screens in an all-new Supergirl TV show.
According to Entertainment Weekly, CBS has picked up the new DC Supergirl show with a series commitment.
“CBS has given a series commitment to Warner Bros. TV’s Supergirl,” they reveal. “The one-hour drama is just one in a long line of comic book properties that are either coming to or are currently on television.”
Of course, it’s no secret that DC is really ramping up their efforts when it comes to their TV properties. After all, with Flash, Constantine and Gotham already due to air sometime in the next few months, it seems as though we just can’t get enough of our favourite DC heroes.
“Arrow and Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti and New Normal’s Ali Adler will write and executive-produce with Sarah Schechter.”
“Based on the DC Comics character, the drama tells the story of Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton, but escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin Superman. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”
It’s currently unclear whether the Supergirl TV show will tie into the wider DC film universe… but it’s thought that (like much of DC’s TV properties) this new show will remain outside the films for the time being.
Although I have to admit, this is one I’d love to see fit in with the movies.
After a cheeky little Easter Egg in Man of Steel, Kara Zor-El is already established to exist within the DC movie universe. And it seems like a real shame if the folks at DC can’t tie the two together.
