After starring in Kingsman: The Secret Service it looks as though Taron Egerton may be up for a part in one of the upcoming Star Wars spin-offs. And it’s a rather iconic role.
The 25-year-old actor recently made waves opposite Colin Firth in the rather excellent spy comedy, Kingsman. And all that swagger might just have landed him one of the biggest roles in the galaxy far, far away – Han Solo.
According to The Sun (via The Daily Mail), Taron Egerton is wanted for the role of Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton is wanted for the lead role,” they revealed. But it’s supposedly not the upcoming Gareth Edwards movie.
“The film will reportedly reveal how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon and as well as showing how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt,” they said. “Filming for another spin-off focused on bounty hunter, Boba Fett, stealing plans for the Death Star will have to be completed before the Solo spin-off can begin.”
But is Taron Egerton really up for the role?
Although The Sun isn’t exactly the most reliable source of casting information, it looks as though there’s been an interesting twist – a tweet by comic book writer Mark Millar.
“Taron shot first,” he tweeted. “#justsayin”
Of course, Millar is obviously referring to Han Solo, seemingly confirming the rumour that The Sun unveiled. And coming from the man who brought us Kingsman it’s likely that he could well be in the know.
But has Taron landed the role, or is he just in contention? Or could Mark Millar’s tweet merely be a show of support?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But while he’s a relative newcomer, I can’t help thinking he might just own the role.
The first Star Wars spin-off heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
