The upcoming sequel to The Wolverine has landed a new writer – Blade Runner 2 and Green Lantern scribe, Michael Green.
According to The Wrap, the seasoned superhero writer has signed on for the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel starring fan-favourite, Hugh Jackman.
“Michael Green is returning to comic book movie territory to write ‘Wolverine’ for 20th Century Fox,” they claim. “James Mangold is directing the sequel, which is expected to be Hugh Jackman‘s last time playing the clawed mutant. Green is currently working on the action-packed script with Mangold’s input.”
Of course, Michael Green is perhaps best known for the much-maligned Green Lantern movie… but his super-powered credits also include becoming Co-Executive Producer on the hit TV series, Heroes.
But recently, he’s been heading in a decidedly more futuristic direction…
Having signed on to pen Blade Runner 2, he’s also been working closely with Ridley Scott and was brought on to revise an earlier script for Prometheus 2. But the next Wolverine solo movie will mark his return to comic book heroes… and it’s quite the prestigious project.
Working alongside James Mangold who will direct the Wolverine sequel, this is thought to be Hugh Jackman’s final outing as everybody’s favourite mutant. And that means it’s going to have to be one hell of a send-off.
But what’s next for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?
I can’t help thinking it would perhaps be an excellent touch to end on the story of Old Man Logan – a comic book which sees the former-superhero bury his Wolverine persona after an all-out assault results in the world finally succumbing to the super-powered villains.
Unfortunately, this seems unlikely – after all, it might be a bit of a leap to get to that point.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
