It’s official – The X-Files will return to our screens early next year, on 24 January 2016.
This rather excellent news was announced by Fox just moments ago, and will see the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the iconic FBI agents, Mulder and Scully.
“The next mind-bending chapter of The X-Files debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25.”
Of course, the new X-Files mini-series has been in the works for a couple of months… but now we have a definite date for the series premiere – in the USA at least.
But with the Fox Network also broadcasting in the UK, I get the feeling we won’t be far behind.
“The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.”
It’s certainly an exciting time for fans of The X-Files. After all, we haven’t seen a new episode of the sci-fi series officially ended in 2002. And while we’ve seen the production of a feature film since then, there’s really nothing like a new episode.
And we can’t wait to find out what’s been going on with Mulder and Scully.
Of course, Duchovny and Anderson aren’t the only familiar faces returning… and it seems that Mitch Pileggi will also be returning to the role of FBI Assistant Director, Walter Skinner.
But will the Cigarette Smoking Man be back?
Last seen in the last episode of the series, it was thought that the enigmatic Cigarette Smoking Man was killed in an explosion at his dwelling in New Mexico. But could the shadowy figure have actually survived? And will he return?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
