After numerous hints that he may be up for the role of Green Lantern, Tyrese Gibson reveals a potential meeting at Warner Bros. But has he landed the role?
It’s been a strange week for Tyrese Gibson after the 36-year-old actor hinted that he may be up for the role of the Green Lantern in DC’s upcoming film slate. Releasing fan-made images of himself suited up in the Green Lantern costume, it was unclear whether or not he was just interested in the role or had been in for talks with the studio.
But now it looks as though things may be further along than we thought.
Appearing on Instagram, the actor posted a rather intriguing image of the Warner Bros. studio lot, taken from his car… and it seems he may have gone in for a chat about appearing as John Stewart.
“I don’t talk….. I move….. #WB #GreenLanternMission”
Of course, while many fans speculated that Gibson may already have landed the role, it looks more likely that his recent social media attempts have been a way of lobbying for a part. And it looks as though he may just have succeeded.
Or at the least, he’s been asked in for a nice chat.
Obviously, this all comes off the back of Gibson’s relentless social media push to link himself with the role. And after dropping vague hints that he may or may not have been up for the role, it looks as though Warner Bros. has taken notice of his interest.
“Idris [Elba,] fall back I got this!” he said, before incorrectly reciting the Green Lantern oath. “In the brightest day, in the blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let all who worship evil’s might, Beware of the power of Green Lantern’s light!”
“I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure,” he added.
Of course, the fact that Gibson implies he’s been called in for a talk about the Green Lantern role suggests that Warner Bros. has taken notice of the buzz surrounding his interest. But will he prove to be the right man for the job?
In the past, we’ve seen Idris Elba emerge as a fan-favourite… but with his commitment to Marvel Studios and the Thor franchise, it looks as though he’s probably out of the running.
I can’t help thinking that Tyrese Gibson would make an interesting Green Lantern, and that John Stewart appearing as the Lantern would certainly separate this new version of the hero from the frankly-abysmal effort starring Ryan Reynolds.
But will Gibson land the role? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
