It’s here – the first trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes.
And it’s going to be an emotional journey for poor old Caesar.
Six years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes introduced us to the future ape leader, we’re treated to a nostalgic look back at his earlier life – complete with tear-inducing quotes from the likes of John Lithgow. It’s staggering to be reminded of just how far Caesar has come.
And it looks as though he’ll be going a lot further still.
Andy Serkis returns as Caesar – the level-headed but unconquerable ape leader. But it looks as though the conflict between apes and humans is at an all-time high. At least, if the Colonel has anything to do with it.

Clearly, the mysterious Colonel (played by Woody Harrelson) means business.
Despite offers of peace and mercy for the charismatic Caesar, it looks as though the Colonel is having none of it. “There are times when it is necessary to abandon your humanity in order to save humanity,” he proclaims in a rousing speech.
And then hits the apes with the full might of the military.
Clearly, none of this goes well. After decimating the apes, the humans may feel like they’ve come out on top. But it’s not long before Caesar decides to track down the man who took it all away from him.

That’s right – he’s on a revenge-fuelled vendetta. And he’s after one man.
Of course, the trailer packs in those action shots, with apes and humans alike suiting up and tooling up to take each other on. Who will come out on top? I think we all know how that’s going to go.
And I don’t fancy the Colonel’s chances.
War for the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Wood Harrelson, and Judy Greer.
Matt Reeves directed the film based on a script he co-wrote with Mark Bomback.
War for the Planet of the Apes heads to cinemas on 14 July 2017.
