The Winter Soldier Central To Captain America: Civil War?

After surviving the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it looks as though Bucky Barnes will play a major role in the upcoming Civil War.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After surviving the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it looks as though Bucky Barnes will play a major role in Marvel‘s upcoming Civil War.

According to a report at Badass Digest, Daniel Bruhl will join Civil War as a villain (as reported elsewhere)… but they also reveal that Bucky Barnes will return in an important role.

“Sources close to production tell me that not only is the Winter Soldier involved in Civil War, he’s a central character in it,” they explain.

But will he return as a friend or foe?

Although Bruhl has been officially confirmed for Civil War it looks as though we’re still none the wiser about which character he’ll play. But the folks at Badass Digest have some rather neat ideas… suggesting that he may appear as Baron Zemo – a high-ranking Nazi who worked on a number of weapon programs.

“What if Zemo is, in some way, connected to The Winter Soldier’s origin, and the newly-clear headed Bucky Barnes goes seeking revenge? Or if Zemo decides to get the Winter Soldier and use him towards his own ends?”

It’s certainly a plausible idea, especially considering Captain America’s long-standing fight against the Nazis. And with the possibility of Zemo appearing as a HYDRA agent, he could even link ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ into the upcoming movie universe.

Of course, at this stage it’s pure speculation… even if it does have a ring of truth about it. Unfortunately, we have no idea whether they’re anywhere near the truth. Either way, it makes a lot of sense to see The Winter Soldier back on our screens. After all, Sebastian Stan – the man behind the mask – has a number of films left on his Marvel contract.

And with the loose thread left at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier it would be nice to see Bucky get some resolution to his story.

But will he show up in Captain America: Civil War?

I can’t help thinking that this could be leading up to something huge – the death of Captain America. And perhaps Bucky picking up the shield would be the tribute we’d all love to see.

Will Captain America: Civil War feature The Winter Soldier? Will he play a major role in the struggle against Iron Man? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
