After rumours that The X-Files could return to TV, it looks as though a new series could already be in the works… and is reportedly close to studio approval.
It’s no secret that X-Files fans are desperate to see another series of the beloved sci-fi show – myself included. And while recent rumours suggested that we may see The X-Files return to our screens, it looks as though it’s a lot closer to becoming a reality.
According to TV Wise, the rumoured new X-Files series is close to being picked up by Fox… and that means Mulder and Scully could return a lot sooner than we thought.
“The X-Files revival is one step closer to becoming a reality,” they revealed. “Fox is close to giving an official green-light to a revival of their iconic science fiction series… The network has settled on a ‘short-stack’ order for the revival and while the exact size of the order is yet-to-be-determined, I’m told it will be less than ten episodes.”
Of course, fans hoping for anything a little longer will likely be disappointed… but with the series intended to wrap up loose ends left after the recent movie I Want To Believe, it seems reasonable to expect something a little on the lower end of the scale.
After all, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson also have other commitments, with both appearing in regular TV roles.
But at least the X-Files is coming back, right? Well, it seems it’s not quite a done deal…
“It should be stressed, however, that talks with sister studio 20th Century Fox Television are still on-going.”
Apparently, an offer has also been made to Mitch Pileggi – Mulder and Scully’s FBI boss in the show – to reprise his role for the new series. And other key cast members are also said to return.
But who exactly will be back remains a mystery.
Of course, for now the X-Files series is still unconfirmed… but as always, the truth is out there. And I can’t help thinking that both Fox and the fans will be keen to see the show head back to our screens.
After all, there’s still plenty of story to tell.
