After rumours that X-Men: Apocalypse would recast Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm, it looks as though even more young actors are up for the roles.
It’s no secret that the upcoming X-Men sequel is already well into production… and with casting kicking off with Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, it won’t be long until the X-Men are rounded out.
But who will join the cast as these young mutants? We might have some idea…
According to the Latino Review, several new actors have been linked to the roles of Cyclops, Jean grey and Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse.
“Producer Simon Kinberg has already stated that the film will bring in younger actors to play Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm,” they explain. “For Young Cyclops the new contenders are Taron [Egerton], Jamie Blackley, and Tye Sheridan.”
Of course, Egerton is already making waves at 20th Century Fox after starring in the upcoming spy action flick, Kingsman. And while early reviews are incredibly positive, I personally think he’s the closest to a young Scott Summers.
“For Young Jean Grey the new contenders are Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan.”
Now, most geeks will remember that Saoirse Ronan was almost in Star Wars VII… at the very least, she auditioned. And after a stellar performance in Hanna she’s carving herself out as an up and coming action star.
But what about Storm?
“The contenders being mentioned for the first time are Alexandra Shipp and Zendaya Coleman. Alexandra played Aaliyah recently in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B and will next be seen in Straight Outta Compton. Zendaya has a background in television with shows like Shake It Up, Zapped, and K.C Undercover.”
I have to admit, I have no idea who either of these young actresses are… and that makes it incredibly difficult to pick a favourite. Either way, it looks as though X-Men: Apocalypse casting is well under way. And we might just see some casting announcements in the coming months.
