X-Men: Apocalypse will give us a very 80s look at our favourite X-Men and could introduce some classic 80s mutants.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer Simon Kinberg revealed that we might even see the appearance of 80s Marvel mutant, Dazzler.
“Could happen,” he laughed. “We’re certainly looking at mutants that would fit into the period.”
Of course, fans of the comic books throughout the 80s will remember Dazzler as the disco-inspired mutant with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light waves. That’s right, she could turn music into a groovy lightshow.
Far out, man.
But it seems we’re in store for plenty of other 80s references.
“That’s the era that I grew up in,” said Kinberg. “The music, the fashion, the videogames: We really want to integrate all of that in the movie, and have it infuse the movie with a different vibe.”
Obviously, this is exactly the sort of thing we’ve come to expect. After all, First Class played well on its 60s setting, and Days of Future Past took the 70s and ran with it – literally. After all, Quicksilver’s penchant for Pink Floyd and garish outfits was more than fitting.
But thankfully, there’s a lot more substance to these movies than simply reflecting on the era they’re set in… and it looks as though we can expect a big conclusion for some our favourite characters.
“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters,” Kinberg explained. “They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.”
Quite what that mean remains to be seen… but with Apocalypse coming, it looks as though our favourite X-Men have quite a foe to face. Will they best him without any casualties? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I get the feeling Apocalypse won’t be going easy on them.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
