After Days of Future Past it looks as though Magneto and Mystique will be getting together… and that’s going to be a big part of X-Men: Apocalypse.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two young X-Men will be getting up close and personal in X-Men: Apocalypse… and the entire film will focus on this budding romance.
“Apocalypse is being crafted around Lawrence’s Mystique character and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto,” they claim. “A source who has seen the script says Fox will take full advantage of Lawrence and Fassbender’s star power, placing Mystique and Magneto’s romance front and center.”
Of course, I can’t help thinking that the more pressing issue will be the X-Men dealing with the imminent threat of their mutant ancestor, Apocalypse. But with Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender in the roles, it’s no surprise that Fox wants to capitalise on this awesome pairing.
Obviously, fans of the comic books will be familiar with the Magneto and Mystique romance… and it’s even been hinted at within the big screen X-Men universe. But after the soft reboot of Days of Future Past it’s perhaps a tad surprising that this is one element that will remain the same.
Still, it looks as though we have even more Magneto and Mystique to look forward to… which is always a good thing. And with the film reportedly shifting focus back to the younger X-Men, it seems there’s plenty of story left in the franchise.
And there’s still the small matter of Apocalypse…
X-Men: Apocalypse is expected in cinemas on 19 May 2016.
