Although Nicholas Hoult has quickly become an X-Men fan favourite, it looks as though Apocalypse could be his final film…
During an interview with E! Online, the 26-year-old X-Men star revealed that he’s almost at the end of his contract… but does this mean he’s out?
“This is the last one I’m signed up for,” he said about X-Men: Apocalypse. But it looks as though he’s keen to stay on in the role.
“The first one did so well and [Days of Future Past] got received so brilliantly,” he said. “It’s like, ‘Wow, people really want to see the films’ and the best thing is it’s a great crew and cast to work with and he’s a fun character. I have a good time playing him so I’d keep making them.”
Obviously, it looks as though Hoult’s return hinges on a technicality – it may be the end of his contract, but I can’t help thinking that 20th Century Fox would be keen to keep him in the role. And with Hoult equally keen to stay, it seems Beast is safe, for the time being.
That is, unless he’s killed off during the events of Apocalypse…
Of course, we can’t really see that happening – he’s already formed a rather close bond with X-Men staple, Charles Xavier. And his interactions with Wolverine have proved to be a big hit. But with Hoult’s contract at an end, I suppose anything is possible.
But if I had to guess, I’d say that 20th Century Fox are likely to renew Hoult’s contract. After all, with X-Men: Apocalypse introducing a number of younger mutants, it seems that plans for the franchise revolve around the next generation.
And since he’s already well established, it would be unlikely that Fox would want him to leave.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
