Although he may have pulled the wool over our eyes when it comes to Prometheus, director Ridley Scott claims there won’t be any Xenomorphs in the upcoming sequel.
It’s no secret that Ridley Scott flat-out lied about Prometheus. Claiming that it wasn’t a prequel to Alien, imagine our surprise when he decided to include a primitive Xenomorph – the very alien from Alien – at the end of the movie. It was a shocking move that divided the fans… after all, we’d heard time and time again that Ridley was definitely not creating an Alien prequel. But despite messing with us a bit, he’s adamant that Prometheus 2 won’t feature the acid-dripping beasts.
“The beast is done,” he told Yahoo! Movies UK. “Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four, I think it wears out a little bit.”
Of course, we heard very similar lines in the press leading up to Prometheus… a movie which (whatever way you look at it) featured a primitive Xenomorph. But it definitely wasn’t a prequel. No sir.
“There’s only so much snarling you can do,” he added. “I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”
I can’t help thinking that (this time) he might actually mean it. After all, I’m not sure how much more the fans can take if he pulls the old switcharoo once more.
Prometheus 2 is currently still in the scripting stage… and at this point, very little is known about the plot. Although Ridley does offer up some hints. “You’ll probably have to go with [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] and [Michael Fassbender’s android David] – without his head. Find out how he gets his head back on!”
Arguably a more interesting story than finding out if there are more Xenomorphs out there, waiting to eat them all. And with many unanswered questions remaining from the first movie, perhaps it’s the perfect opportunity to explain some of the intricacies of what happened.
As for Ridley Scott, it looks as though he remains rather busy with other projects… including the highly-anticipated Blade Runner sequel. But how is that coming along?
“It’s on the charts,” he revealed. “I can’t say when that would be yet, because of [Ford’s] thing with Star Wars. It’s a sequel – it’s what happens next. It’s quite surprisingly clever.”
Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the Blade Runner sequel in due course. But for now, it looks as though Scott has rather a lot on his plate. Still, with Ford keen to reprise his role, it’s surely just a matter of time.
Let’s just hope the Xenomorphs don’t show up there, too.
