After recently unveiling the first Batman V Superman teaser trailer, director Zack Snyder has given us another closer look at Ben Affleck’s batsuit.
Appearing on Twitter, the Batman V Superman director unveiled yet-another peek at Batman’s latest costume… this time, giving us the full-body shot of the same image we saw in the recent trailer.
But what does it tell us?
Even before the first official trailer, we’d seen a handful of images unveiling Batman’s new suit. Although the first official images appeared in black and white, Snyder hasn’t been shy when it comes to revealing his new Batman.
And we’ve already seen a couple of shots of Affleck’s costume.
Of course, the most detailed look so far had been unveiled at San Diego Comic Con when the infamous cowl appeared as part of an exhibition. But while it didn’t unveil the entire costume it seems we now have a far better look at the entire ensemble.
And it’s looking fairly, well… gritty.
Clearly falling in line with the film’s heavier, grittier aesthetic, it looks as though Ben Affleck’s Batman is going to be a real brawler. Just look at the size of him in the recent trailer. And the new batsuit certainly seems to reflect that.
Boasting little-to-no colour throughout the entire suit (and even avoiding the trademark yellow/gold belt) it’s a far darker batsuit than we’ve seen on screen so far. And it certainly seems to take inspiration from some of the grittier, more realistic costumes of the DC comic books.
But is it a good costume?
It’s certainly the most realistic take on batman that we’ve seen in a long time… and with a more visceral look, it strikes me as a good choice for a rugged, cynical Batman. But I can’t help thinking that the tone of the trailer is rather heavy. And that’s reflected in the costume design.
My opinion? The costume is great, and it’s a nice, fresh take on the character… but I just can’t get excited about Batman V Superman. And perhaps it has a lot to do with the look and feel of the trailer.
