It’s official – Marvel‘s Ant-Man has finally unveiled its first trailer… and it’s about as awesome as we were expecting.
The wait is finally over – Ant-Man gets its first official trailer. And as Paul Rudd dons the Ant-Man suit for the first time, he asks the all-important question – is it too late to change the name?
Complete with a brooding voiceover from none other than Michael Douglas, it looks as though Ant-Man might be the hero San Francisco deserves… and as Paul Rudd makes his debut appearance as Scott Lang – the criminal who makes a huge life decision to become a new kind of superhero – we finally get to see him on screen in that rather awesome costume.
And we even get a big thumbs up from the man himself.
After being given the chance to don the Ant-Man suit, it looks as though Scott Lang will be mentored by former Ant-Man, Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas). And as you can tell from that voiceover, there’s a touchy-feely backstory that’s straight from the comic books.
“This is your chance to earn that look in your daughter’s eyes,” says Pym. “To become the hero that she already thinks you are.”
Of course, things soon take a rather unorthodox turn as Scott is shrunk down to a miniscule size… but don’t let the looks fool you – Ant-Man packs quite a punch.
Clambering aboard a flying ant, Scott flies off on a one man mission. But as for what that mission is, well… for now, we’re not entirely sure. Either way, it looks as though Ant-Man is pulling out all the stops in an attempt to be different.
And I can’t help thinking that it’s going to grab the attention of comic book fans.
But what about that distinctive tone we were promised? I can’t help thinking that it’s a lot less comedic in nature than many of us expected… and in this brief trailer, there’s a lot more drama than we were led to believe.
Does the tone of Ant-Man match Edgar Wright’s vision or has the movie taken a sharp turn after he left the project? I wonder if we’ll ever know… but either way, it looks like the Ant-Man is ready to kick some butt.
Ant-Man heads to cinemas on 17 July 2015.
