Benedict Cumberbatch has furiously denied Star Wars VII rumours in the past. But it looks as though he’s already visited the galaxy far, far away.
Was it just a Star Wars set visit with a friend, or something a bit more official?
Over the past few months, Benedict Cumberbatch has been tipped time and time again for a role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. And while he continues to deny the rumours, it seems they might just persist for a reason. After visiting the set of Star Wars VII it seems that he’s certainly set tongues wagging.
But will he really appear in the Star Wars sequel? It looks as though that may have already happened…
In an interview with Graham Norton, the 38-year-old British actor revealed that he’s already been on the set of Star Wars VII… but should we really jump to conclusions?
“I went to the set,” he admitted according to The Metro. “It was incredible”.
Of course, the well-educated actor soon realised that he had said a bit too much… and quickly tried to cover his tracks. “I probably shouldn’t be saying these things,” he hastily added.
But let’s put this into perspective…
There are plenty of high-profile celebrities who have called in a favour with their friend J.J. Abrams to arrange a visit the Star Wars VII set – most notably Kevin Smith, who admitted that as a Star Wars fan himself, this personal set visit brought him to tears.
But is there a bit more to Cumberbatch’s visit?
After appearing in Star Trek Into Darkness he’s already built a good working relationship with director J.J. Abrams… and it wasn’t long before rumours began to circulate that Abrams was in fact eyeing him for a role. Although the rumours remain unconfirmed, perhaps there’s some truth to them after all.
Obviously, Graham Norton was quick to ask Cumberbatch whether he’ll appear in the upcoming movie… but was met with the reply: ‘no comment’.
Although Cumberbatch is keen to remain silent, it looks as though there’s suddenly a lot more weight to those earlier rumours. But will he really end up in Star Wars: Episode VII? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
