Borg Queen Wants To Return To Star Trek (EXCLUSIVE)

Star Trek: First Contact star Alice Krige wants to bring the Borg Queen back to our screens.

By Ryan Leston 22nd September 2014

It’s been a long time since we last saw the Borg on screen… but Alice Krige – the Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact – would love to appear in the Star Trek reboots.

After the phenomenal success of Star Trek Into Darkness it’s safe to say that J.J. Abrams has proved you can take classic Star Trek elements and give them an entirely new spin. But what about remixing the entire timeline? The Borg were the most-feared enemies of Captain Picard and the Next Generation crew… but could they appear in Star Trek 3?

Star Trek 3 Aiming For 2016 Release?

I caught up with legendary Borg Queen Alice Krige to find out whether she thinks the Borg could appear in the recently rebooted Star Trek franchise…

“Who knows,” she said. “I think the Borg Queen is an enormously interesting character. I made a personal decision that she has always been around. Just because we didn’t know she was there, doesn’t mean she wasn’t. I think she’s been there since the big bang.”

Of course, this raises a very interesting question – since the rebooted timeline is drifting ever further from the original Star Trek universe, could the USS Enterprise accidentally stumble into the Delta Quadrant, or into the path of the Borg?

It’s already been established that the Borg have existed for thousands of years… and while their exact history is still unknown, it’s entirely likely that they could be lurking in an as-yet uncharted region of space.

But would Alice Krige be interested in reprising her role?

“Absolutely,” she said with a certain glint in her eye. “Yes.”

It would certainly be an interesting turn for the rebooted original series… but would this amalgamation of original and Next Generation be too much for the fans to handle? It’s certainly an interesting concept, and having grown up watching TNG, I’m the first to admit that I have a certain love for the Borg.

But I can’t help feeling that’s just wishful thinking.

Of course, her time on set with the likes of Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart is bound to have been a wonderful experience… and she was keen to tell me quite how brilliant the rest of the cast were when it came to welcoming her on set.

“They were enormously welcoming, which was really very kind of them. They worked together very, very closely for a long time and were a really functional family. I mean, they really liked each other – they were like brothers and sisters. They were a great group. And they made me feel so welcome… it was a very good experience.”

But who was her favourite Star Trek actor to work with?

“I spent much more time working with Brent,” she said. “Brent was in L.A. the same time as I was. Patrick was off in the Angeles Forest – they were shooting a sequence away. Brent was enormously helpful to me. We worked together, rehearsed our scenes together. And Patrick, of course, was wonderful but I had much less time with him.”

Godzilla Sequel Gets A Writer

Obviously, with Star Trek 3 in the works, it could be the ideal time to reintroduce a new generation of Star Trek fans to the Borg. So if you’re reading this Orci, get Alice Krige back on our screens. After all, resistance is futile.

Do you think the rebooted Star Trek could ever feature the Borg? Would it be too much for Star Trek fans to handle? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
