Although Daniel Bruhl was recently announced for Captain America: Civil War it looks as though he might not be the main villain… with Crossbones rumoured to return.
It’s no secret that Daniel Bruhl has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War after an official announcement from Marvel Studios. But details of the his role remain uncertain. Of course, we’ll find out in due course, but with rumours that he’ll take a villainous role, it looks as though he may not be the main villain.
But will Frank Grillo’s Crossbones play a major part instead?
After the announcement of Daniel Bruhl’s casting, it looks as though Variety Reporter Justin Kroll was beaten to the punch… but he also has some details about the upcoming film’s real villain.
“Beat by Marvel in that one,” he said via Twitter. “Two things – he will play villain but not main one, Crossbones still main.”
Of course, Frank Grillo appeared as Brock Rumlow in the recent Captain America: The Winter Soldier and it looks as though his transformation into Marvel henchman might be complete. But can Crossbones really appear as the main antagonist in the upcoming Civil War?
It’s certainly possible. After all, we know that the main conflict will focus on the friction (and presumably fight) between Iron Man and Captain America.
But while Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will undoubtedly clash on the big screen, there could still be room for a common threat. I mean, let’s face it – they’re both still superheroes… and it would be a perfect opportunity for HYDRA to take advantage of the warring heroes.
Of course, Frank Grillo is keeping mum when it comes to his potential role in the movie, having previously said that: “I know less than nothing about Cap3. Truly.” But whether or not Grillo is in on the act, it looks as though Crossbones may make a triumphant return.
And I can’t help thinking that Grillo’s performance in The Winter Soldier is one of the main reasons to keep him around… followed by the awesome costume that he’s likely to don in the upcoming Captain America sequel.
Let’s just hope Grillo is on board. After all, I get the feeling he’d provide quite the formidable foe when he’s fully kitted out by HYDRA. And with a score to settle, he’ll certainly take no prisoners.
