Although he’s already met an untimely end in Game of Thrones it’s not the last we’ve seen of Charles Dance… as he confirms that Tywin Lannister will be back in Series 5.
It’s no secret that Game of Thrones characters tend not to last very long… and the series has become well-known for killing off those we know and love without batting an eyelid. But is it really that easy to get rid of Charles Dance? Apparently not, as the legendary British thesp admits that he will be back.
“I’m not completely missing out on the next series,” he told MTV News during press for Dracula Untold. “More than that, I’m not going to say. You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister, is all I’ll say.”
Now, that’s a fairly unambiguous confirmation right there… no ifs or buts – Charles Dance will return to Game of Thrones. But does that mean that Tywin Lannister is still alive? It’s certainly not something many fans have considered, even if some major news outlets are reporting that this must be the case. But it could mean that Charles Dance will reprise a more post-mortem role… just as Jack Gleeson did in the episode after Joffrey’s death.
Charles Dance is perhaps best known for his numerous movie roles, but he also played Lord Vetinari in the live-action adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal.
Of course, there could be another reason for his return – a good old fashioned flashback. Although ‘Game of Thrones’ doesn’t usually use those, it’s not entirely out of the question. But I can’t help thinking we may see Charles donning full corpse makeup.
Either way, it sounds as though Series 5 will be off to an interesting start.
