Uncharted has failed to capture the attention of yet-another leading man, with Chris Pratt turning down the ambitious video game movie. But who will end up playing Nate Drake?
After plenty of rumours, it looks as though another fan-favourite has dropped out of the running for the upcoming Uncharted movie, with Chris Pratt turning down the film. But it looks as though Sony has at least managed to bag a new writer…
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star passed up the chance to lead Sony’s ‘Uncharted’ movie.
“Sony still needs to find its leading man for the film before it can move forward,” they explain. “Mark Wahlberg had been attached but eventually moved on. More recently, the studio made an offer to Chris Pratt, but he passed.”
Of course, this is bad news for Uncharted fans as we see yet-another actor turn down the lead role of Nate Drake – ancestor of Sir Francis Drake who sets off to find the lost city of El Dorado… but it’s not long before a rival treasure hunter gets in his way.
But while the film is yet to find its leading man, it looks as though it has snagged an Oscar-winning writer in the form of Mark Boal.
“Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) has been brought on to work on the film’s screenplay,” they reveal, “which will be directed by Seth Gordon.”
Although Boal isn’t the first Oscar-winner to take a run at the ‘Uncharted’ movie, it looks as though he may be the first to get it to stick, after a failed attempt by David O. Russell left the studio wanting more… and failed to get picked up.
Of course, I can’t help wondering whether Uncharted will ever really get off the ground… even if it is a brilliantly cinematic game to work from. It’s certainly a highlight for me, and I love the thought of seeing Nate Drake take to the big screen. But will Sony be able to bag their leading man? With video game movies having such a bad reputation, it looks as though they have an uphill struggle on their hands.
