Although little is known about the upcoming Skyfall sequel (including its name), it looks as though Christoph Waltz has joined Bond 24.
According to Baz Bamigboye of The Daily Mail, the 58-year-old Oscar winner will be joining Daniel Craig on the set of Bond 24… and he’s apparently a very trustworthy source when it comes to the Bond franchise.
“#CHRISTOPHWALTZ signs on for Bond 24,” he said via Twitter. “Shoots early December Mexico Morocco Austria Italy & London.”
Of course, it looks as though Sam Mendes has managed to keep a veil of secrecy that would rival MI6 itself… and for now, there are no further details regarding Christoph Waltz’s role. Although it seems that many Bond fans are assuming that he’ll probably take on a villainous character.
After all, his portrayal of SS Colonel Hans Landa in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds certainly turned a few heads.
Either way, Waltz is said to have taken a ‘significant role’ in the film… and it certainly makes sense that he might be lined up to play the film’s villain. He’s certainly built up a great reputation following his appearance in Django Unchained and would definitely bring a sense of gravitas to the part – something that’s definitely needed for a James Bond villain.
But at the moment, it remains unclear which role he’s actually taking.
“I am told that the part is a complex one. It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,’ a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me,” said Bamigboye. “Although someone else on the production let slip that the character Waltz has signed up for is ‘extremely cunning’. ‘A nemesis of sorts,’ they continued.”
Of course, if Waltz has signed on for the upcoming Bond movie, it seems he’s in good company. Joining Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Léa Seydoux, it looks as this might even top its predecessor.
Sam Mendes has already been tapped to return to the director’s chair… and after producing the biggest British film ever made, it looks as though Bond 24 could be even bigger.
Bond 24 appears in cinemas on 23 October 2015.
