Supergirl is looking for its leading lady… and according to latest rumours, Claire Holt is in the running for DC‘s classic female hero.
According to The Wrap, the 26-year-old actress is in the running to play Supergirl in the upcoming TV show.
“Look, up in the sky! It’s … Claire Holt? Holt, who plays Rebekah on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries and its offshoot The Originals, is among those testing for the lead role in CBS’s upcoming comic-book adaptation Supergirl.”
Although the upcoming one-hour drama has already been granted a series commission by CBS, it looks as though the race is on to cast its leading lady. And according to sources, Holt is currently in contention for the role.
It’s a familiar-sounding premise for fans of Smallville – the young Kara Zor-El came to Earth after the destruction of Krypton… and spent many years hiding her superhuman power. But now, at the age of 24, she decides to embrace her abilities as Supergirl.
Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) are currently writing and producing the upcoming series. But while Berlanti is tied to DC’s small screen universe, it’s unclear whether or not Supergirl will cross over with other DC projects.
Will Superman appear on the show? How about the rest of the Justice League? For now, that’s unclear but I can’t help thinking we’ll see some classic comic book characters on Supergirl.
But will Claire Holt land the role?
Although she’s apparently in the running, it sounds as though they have a number of Supergirl’s in mind. But I can’t help thinking that she really fits the role. After all, she definitely looks the part. But has she got what it takes to become Supergirl?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
