The Dark Tower has been pushed back… again.
Sorry Stephen King fans – it looks as though The Dark Tower will have to wait.
The upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s critically-acclaimed novel has been bumped back another week, and is now set to be released on 4 August 2017.
So what’s that all about?
If everything had gone according to plan, the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower would already have hit cinemas several months ago. Originally slated for release on 13 January 2017, the film has been pushed back several times at this stage.
And it’s hardly surprising.
At the moment, fans outside of this year’s CinemaCon are yet see any footage at all. Just to put that into perspective, Stephen King’s IT doesn’t open in cinemas until September, and yet we’ve already seen a rather impressive trailer.

So what’s going on with The Dark Tower?
The movie was given a debut clip at CinemaCon 2017… but as SlashFilm reports, it was littered with unfinished footage:
“The footage had some visual effects that looked very early and unfinished for a July 28, 2017 release. With no trailer yet released for this film, I wonder if Sony will delay the movie yet again.”
The Dark Tower was previously slated to hit cinemas one week before, on 28 July 2017… but it’s unlikely that the studio has pushed it back a single week to accommodate visual fx work. Instead, it looks as though the studio has pushed it back to accommodate the release of The Emoji Movie.
But could it be pushed back yet again?
I certainly wouldn’t be surprised – not if those unfinished shots are as bad as they sound. After all, there could be a lot of work yet to be done on the movie… and an August release date begins to seem a little over-ambitious.
But for now, we have to wait and see.
The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Katheryn Winnick, Abbey Lee and Jackie Earle Haley.
Nikolaj Arcel directed the movie based on a script he co-wrote with Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinkner.
The Dark Tower heads to cinemas on 4 August 2017.
