Doctor Who will finally have its own LEGO set… and it will appear on shelves later this year.
Chosen as part of the LEGO Ideas program, the rather cool fan-made Doctor Who set will be made into a full retail set. And it’s slated to appear on shelves later this year. But which of the classic Doctor Who characters will end up as minifigures?
Based on an outpouring of fan support for the project last year, the rather cool LEGO set will go into production soon. The original proposal features a rather cool-looking TARDIS as well as K-9, several Doctors and Companions and even a Daleks.
There’s even a pretty awesome TARDIS console that really looks the part.
Depicted in the set are Matt Smith’s Doctor, David Tennant and even Tom Baker… with the companions Rose Tyler and Catherine Tate to accompany them.
Unfortunately, these are only the figures proposed by the project creator. Exact details of what LEGO will be producing remains to be seen. But one thing’s for certain – it’s going to be quite a collector’s set for Doctor Who fans.
The upcoming Doctor Who set is part of the LEGO Ideas project – a community-driven initiative which allows fans to vote on potential LEGO sets, which are then put before the company to see about developing them further.
Although plenty of Doctor Who sets have been proposed in the past, this is the first time LEGO has committed to making them. And once in production, they’ll join the likes of the rather cool ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean and the ‘Ghostbusters’ ECTO-1.
LEGO Ideas will also produce an all-new WALL-E set as part of the initiative… and have teased some future projects including the Jurassic Park gates and even the ship from The Goonies.
Will they make it to the shelves? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But the TARDIS will materialise in stores before the end of the year.
