It seems we’ve finally got a glimpse of the Doctor Strange villain in action…
Things are about to get a bit hairy for Doctor Stephen Strange.
While filming in New York City, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor have been snapped on set.
And thanks to Just Jared, these images give us a glimpse at the good doctor in action.
But most importantly, we’ve got a glimpse at Mads Mikkelsen’s villain.
Benedict Cumberbatch can be seen running down the street, clad in his full Doctor Strange costume… include cape, cowl and what looks like the Eye of Agamotto – the mystical amulet which hangs around his neck.
Of course, we’ve seen Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange already… but these candid set pics give us our first real glimpse of the doctor in action. How is he coping? Let’s just say that he definitely looks the part.
And with Chiwetel Ejiofor along for the ride as Baron Mordo, it’s our first good look at his character, too.
But here’s the kicker: Mads Mikkelsen also appeared on set…
Little has been revealed about Mads Mikkelsen’s role in Doctor Strange… however, it was finally confirmed late last year that he would be the film’s main villain. “It would be fun to conceal [his identity], if we can,” said Marvel boss Kevin Feige.
And they’re doing a pretty good job of that.
But now the unknown villain has been snapped on set, and he looks all kinds of scary as his almost-demonic appearance is finally revealed.
Of course, the real eye-catcher is the villain’s eyes, which seem to be depicting some kind of demonic presence. In fact, they look almost burned out of their sockets, which might suggest an appearance from the flame-headed demon, Dormammu.
Could Mads Mikkelsen’s character be possessed by the classic Marvel demon?
But what about the villain’s clothes?
Clearly, whoever (or whatever) it is, he’s taking a human form… or perhaps a human host. And with similarly-mystical garb to Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor, you have to wonder whether this will turn out to be yet-another student of The Ancient One.
Either way, it looks as though Marvel has managed to keep a lid on one of the biggest secrets of Doctor Strange… at least, for now.
But will we see Dormammu take to the screen? Or will it be another villain entirely?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Doctor Strange heads to cinemas on 28 October 2016.
