It looks as though Matt Smith’s Hollywood career is off to a flying start. After bagging a role in Terminator: Genisys it looks as though he’ll also star in the upcoming sci-fi flick Patient Zero.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the 30-year-old former-Doctor will star in the upcoming zombie flick, Patient Zero.
“Matt Smith will star in Screen Gems Patient Zero opposite Natalie Dormer,” they reveal. “Stefan Ruzowitzky is directing the Mike Le-scripted action thriller and Vincent Newman is producing.”
Of course, Matt Smith is best known for his starring role in the world-renowned BBC sci-fi series, Doctor Who. But with an upcoming appearance in the new Terminator sequel, he might just have cracked Hollywood.
Patient Zero follows the story of an unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies… and in true zombie fashion, this results in the creation of a new species of humans that are driven by violence. Of course, the main protagonist is an inexplicably immune human survivor. But with a strange ability to communicate with the infected, it seems he’s forced to use his new talent to spearhead a hunt for Patient Zero – the first infected who might just lead them to finding a cure for his infected wife…
It’s certainly a far cry from Doctor Who, but it’s nice to see that the Doctor hasn’t forgotten his sci-fi and horror roots… and with a rumoured role in the upcoming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies it looks as though Matt Smith has managed to carve out a real niche.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see Matt Smith take on the zombie hoards in Patient Zero. But will this be a hit at the box office? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
