New sci-fi movie Mute is heading to Netflix next month.
At least, according to director Duncan Jones.
It’s the film many of us have been dying to see – Mute is the upcoming sci-fi flick from Duncan Jones, who previously brought us the World of Warcraft movie and, most notably, Moon. Now, it looks as though the wait is finally over…
“Next month,” he said via Twitter. “Shhh! I’m not supposed to know yet!”
“Waiting on frickin regional sub titles to be finished,” he added. “All the tech checks on vfx now completed.”
Mute stars Alexander Skarsgard as Leo – a bartender living in the neo-noir futuristic city of Berlin. Due to a childhood accident, Leo is unable to speak, and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend, Naadirah. But when she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search takes him deep into the seedy underbelly of the city he thought he knew.
It’s been described as an homage to Blade Runner, as well as a spiritual successor to Jones’ cult hit, Moon. And I know I’m not the only one who can’t wait to see this. Moon remains one of my favourite sci-fi flicks from recent years, and if it’s anywhere near as accomplished as that, we’re all in for a real treat.
As for when exactly the film will appear on Netflix?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
But if it’s dropping just next month, I can’t help thinking we’re likely to get an official announcement sometime soon. And it’s about time we got to see an official trailer, too.
Mute stars Alexander Skarsgard, Seyneb Saleh, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux.
Duncan Jones both wrote and directed the movie.
Mute heads to Netflix sometime next month.
