Frank Grillo’s Crossbones is looking a bit worse for wear in Captain America: Civil War and has appeared on set with some rough-looking scars.
It looks as though Brock Rumlow’s encounter with Captain America in The Winter Soldier has left quite an impression… all over his face. That’s right folks – much like the comic book version of Crossbones, he’s appeared on set with rather hefty facial scarring.
But does this mean he’s got a vendetta against The First Avenger?
Thanks to the folks at Just Jared (who unveiled his awesome costume last week) we’ve got another cool look at Frank Grillo on set… who this time, took off his mask to reveal some of the cool special effects used to give him a bit of battle damage.
Of course, comic book fans have been expecting this for some time.
After all, his exposure to the Terrigen Mists caused him to manifest the ability to generate energy beams from his face. But he wasn’t entirely impervious to his own power… the heat from which left him heavily scarred in the process.
But while this is unlikely to come into play in Captain America: Civil War, his facial scarring is a nice nod to his comic book origins.
It’s already been pointed out that Frank Grillo’s special effects makeup has only been applied around his eyes. But does this mean his scars won’t extend over his entire face?
Although that could be possible, I get the feeling it’s likely that the makeup has only been applied around the eyes here, as it’s the only part of his face that will be seen behind the mask.
Will we get another better look at his full facial scarring? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But Crossbones is shaping up to be a rather intimidating opponent.
Captain America: Civil War heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
