It’s official – Channing Tatum will star in his very own Gambit solo movie… and that means that Remy LeBeau will finally take his place amongst the X-Men once more.
After much speculation, it looks as though 20th Century Fox has finally pushed forward with its Gambit solo movie… and that’s obviously great news for fans of the Cajun card slinger. But when will get our first glimpse of the usually flashy Gambit? It looks as though we might be in for a bit of a wait. But they have lined up a writer…
According to a new report from Deadline Hollywood, the highly-anticipated X-Men spin-off now has a writer… and it’s Robocop writer, Joshua Zetuma.
“In a move that makes official that the X-Men character Gambit is getting his own spinoff movie with Channing Tatum as the card-savvy protagonist, Fox has set Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer to write the screenplay,” they explain.
But that’s not all… it looks as though Marvel alumni Chris Claremont is rather heavily involved.
“The screenplay will be based on a treatment penned by legendary Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont, who with Jim Lee created the character for Marvel in 1990,” they reveal. But apparently, the plot is being kept firmly under wraps.
Gambit is perhaps best known for his rather uncanny abilities when it comes to a deck of cards… and his main power involves charging objects with volatile kinetic energy, which is then released upon impact.
A rather more deadly deal than your usual croupier.
Of course, Gambit’s last appearance was in the critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But that movie didn’t exactly show Gambit at his best. Still, it looks as though Fox is keen to give the smooth-talking mutant another shot… and with Channing Tatum in the role, I can’t help thinking he could soon become a fan favourite.
But will he be as good as the Gambit we know and love in the comic books? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
