Jared Leto is well on his way to becoming The Joker… as a new image pays homage to The Killing Joke while showing off his new hairdo.
Appearing on Twitter, Suicide Squad director David Ayer decided to give a hint of what’s to come… by releasing this rather cool new image.
And I have to admit, he’s looking rather awesome.
Obviously, the picture is a homage to Alan Moore’s highly-celebrated graphic novel, ‘The Killing Joke’. Serving as an origin story of sorts, we encounter The Joker before he became the infamous villain… although the validity of his stories are always uncertain.
But what does this have to do with Suicide Squad?
For the time being, we’re unsure… and it could simply be an excuse to impress the fans with a rather cool nod to one of their favourite comic books.
Or perhaps there’s a bit more to it than meets the eye.
We’ve heard rumours for some time that the feud between Batman and The Joker will be well established in Suicide Squad. In fact, The Joker is said to be incarcerated after a run-in with the Dark Knight himself.
And with Amanda Waller rumoured to be obsessed with the Batman, the entire movie is about breaking The Joker out, in order to find out more about the DC hero.
But could this story incorporate elements of The Killing Joke?
I can’t help thinking that we may get some nods towards this classic comic book… and it wouldn’t be a bad thing. After all, The Killing Joke shows just how far The Joker is willing to go.
But will it pan out like that? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I get the feeling this is little more than a bit of cheap publicity. Even if it is a rather awesome image.
Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
