Jeffrey Dean Morgan is going on a Rampage.
According to Deadline, the 50-year-old Watchmen and The Walking Dead star has signed up for Dwayne Johnson’s increasingly-epic-sounding video game adaptation.
“The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan will put down the baseball bat for a while as he has signed on to join Dwayne Johnson in the New Line monster movie Rampage,” they revealed.
Of course, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is currently enjoying infamy as the villainous Negan on The Walking Dead… but he’s also seen his fair share of big screen roles, most prominently as the Comedian in the hit comic book movie, Watchmen and Thomas Wayne in the recent Batman V Superman.
But who will he be playing in Rampage?
“Morgan will play Agent Russell, who works for a covert government division called OGA and rolls with serious swagger and attitude.”
Of course, it’s easy to see Morgan fitting into this kind of role, after becoming one of The Walking Dead’s most memorable villains as the baseball-bat-swinging Negan.
And it looks as though he’ll be reuniting with his former Watchmen co-star, Malin Akerman who will reportedly be playing the main Rampage villain.
“Rampage‘s exact logline is under wraps, but like the 1980s Midway arcade game on which it is based, the central conflict comes down to this: There are three giant monsters wreaking havoc across North America – and Johnson is the only hope of stopping them.”
I have to admit – I wasn’t entirely sold on Rampage when I first heard it was heading to the big screen. But let’s face it – Dwayne Johnson is gathering all the right people to turn this into an epic, action-packed romp through a classic ‘80s videogame franchise.
It might even end up being a good movie.
Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Malin Akerman, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Brad Peyton will direct Rampage based on a script by Ryan Engle, Carlton Cuse, Ryan Condal, and Adam Sztykiel.
Rampage heads to cinemas on 20 April 2018.
