After rumours that Jenna Coleman would leave Doctor Who after the Christmas Special, it looks as though the current companion has signed up for another full series.
It’s been a year of ups and downs for poor old Clara Oswald after losing Danny Pink in the heart-wrenching season finale. But while many of us believed that Jenna Coleman’s time on the show had come to an end, it looks as though this is just the beginning for the Doctor’s companion.
During an interview with BBC News, the 28-year-old Doctor Who companion revealed that she’s already signed up for another full series.
“I get a whole other [season] of stories with the Doctor,” she said. “And I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved.”
Of course, there’s been plenty of speculation that Jenna Coleman would be replaced in favour of a new companion. And it all seems to have stemmed from the rather traumatic storylines in the recent series.
Pushed to the limit and with the death of her loved one Danny, it seemed that Clara was ready to leave The Doctor behind. But fans who tuned into yesterday’s Christmas special will know that she’s decided to head back to the TARDIS. And it looks as though her adventures are far from over.
“There is so much more to do,” she explained. “I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.”
“The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.”
And it looks as though The Doctor is equally happy to see her stay.
“I’m thrilled.,” said Peter Capaldi. “Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with.”
It looks as though Clara Oswald is here to stay. But will she ever get her happily-ever-after? For now, we’ll have to wait and see…
