John Barrowman Planning Torchwood Return

Doctor Who actor John Barrowman will return as Captain Jack Harkness.

By Ryan Leston 19th January 2015

Doctor Who actor John Barrowman has revealed BBC plans to produce a new Torchwood radio drama… and it might even lead to more TV episodes.

During a press conference for the DC comic book series Arrow, the 47-year-old actor revealed the rather awesome upcoming plans.

“I do know that we’re doing three or four radio plays for the BBC for Torchwood,” he said. “My sister and I are discussing the possibility of writing one of them and whether or not that leads to something [on TV]…”

Russell T. Davies Turned Down Doctor Who Return

Of course, fans have been clamouring for more of the Doctor Who spin-off show since the series ended in 2011 with Torchwood: Miracle Day – a 10-part co-production which saw a worldwide event in which people stopped dying.

But will Torchwood return to our screens?

“I’m full-time with Arrow now,” he said. “It’s not a question of me not wanting to do it, it’s a question of the BBC wanting to do it or others wanting to do Torchwood. I know the fans are out there so I think they’d be silly not to.”

Thankfully, it looks as though it’s not just John barrowman returning for the upcoming Torchwood radio plays… and he was reported to have confirmed that one of the plays will feature the entire Torchwood team, while others will be “character-based”.

He also confirmed that writer and show runner Russell T. Davies will return to the radio dramas as well as executive producer Julie Gardner. “It’s the team back together.”

Peter Capaldi Confirmed For Doctor Who Series 9

But are the fans keen to see more Torchwood? I get the feeling that any prospective TV return will hinge on whether the radio dramas get enough of a positive reaction. And I can’t help hoping that the BBC decides to go ahead and bring Torchwood back.

That, or perhaps a Captain Jack cameo in the new series of Doctor Who…

Do you think Torchwood should return? Who would you like to see alongside John Barrowman? Let us know in the comments below…
