Could Kingsman: The Secret Service Get A Sequel?

Kingsman: The Secret Service might just get a sequel.

By Ryan Leston 17th February 2015

Kingsman: The Secret Service is doing incredibly well as the US box office… and that could mean a sequel on the horizon. But will Colin Firth return?

During an interview with USA Today, Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn revealed that they might find a way to bring Colin Firth back for a sequel.

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment,” he revealed. “If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”

Of course, the movie is already doing incredibly well at the box office – managing to make over $36 million in its opening weekend while going up against Fifty Shades Of Grey. But does this mean a sequel is on the cards?

Based on the Kingsman comic book by Mark Millar, there’s no further source material to draw from… but that doesn’t mean a sequel won’t happen.

“I’d love to do another one,” Vaughn told Moviefone. “This movie really is the origin story of Eggsy. And Eggsy is really the real, true modern gentleman spy. It really isn’t Harry Hart. Harry Hart is the old cliché of what you think a gentleman spy is.”

That said, it seems there’s still room for the two of them to exist together… and if a sequel is in the works, it looks as though Colin Firth would be part of the package.

“Eggsy will be taking on a whole new way. But it’s up to the audience. If they go see it and want another one, I would absolutely love to do it. We had so much fun making this movie. And you wouldn’t believe what we’ve got in store.”

It certainly sounds as though Vaughn has started putting some ideas together for a possible follow-up… and it’s likely to take Mark Strong off on a whole new adventure – setting up the American equivalent of the Kingsman programme.

“Poor Mark Strong will be going on a journey that he never imagined,” teases Vaughn. “And we’ve got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman…”

Kingsman: The Secret Service is in cinemas now.
