The Crow will need to find its eponymous hero after Luke Evans pulls out of the upcoming reboot.
It seems that comic book movies are all the rage, and with a surge in popularity, every studio wants a piece of the action. Based on a 1980s comic book series, The Crow is Relativity’s big shot at turning a cult classic into a bankable franchise… but things aren’t going too well.
After hanging on to see what the studio could come up with, it looks as though Luke Evans has now dropped out of The Crow reboot.
According to The Wrap, the 35-year-old Welsh actor won’t be donning the infamous make-up for the upcoming reboot of The Crow.
“Director Corin Hardy [is] searching for a new star for The Crow reboot, as Luke Evans has officially exited the project to pursue other projects,” they revealed. “Hardy will begin meeting with actors after his film The Hallow debuts at Sundance.”
Of course, Luke Evans had been lined up to take the leading role for some time… but after a slew of production delays and a change of director, it seems enough is enough.
“Evans was poised to play Eric Draven when F. Javier Gutierrez was attached to direct The Crow, but production was delayed and with no new start date in sight, Evans was forced to pass and move on.”
Of course, Evans was rumoured to be departing the movie as early as last December… and in an interview with Den of Geek, the actor sounded as though he was running out of time and patience.
Asked whether the film was moving ahead, he had this to say:
“It’s not, no. No at the minute… The Crow is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!”
Unfortunately, it looks as though Luke Evans’ wait has come to an end… and he won’t get the chance to appear on the big screen as The Crow. But after the commercial success of Dracula Untold and a role in The Hobbit trilogy, I have to wonder whether he really cares.
Either way, he won’t be starring in The Crow but who will they get to replace him? For now, we’ll have to wait and see…
