After expressing interest in returning to the galaxy far, far away, it looks as though Samuel L. Jackson might just get the chance… as a Mace Windu Star Wars spin-off movie becomes a possibility.
That’s right folks – the coolest Jedi Master in the entire galaxy could return to Star Wars as rumours begin circulating that he might get his very own spin-off film. But does this mean a spectacular return for Samuel L. Jackson? And will we finally get to see how Mace ended up with a purple lightsaber?
Appearing in a Reddit AMA, filmmaker A. J. Edwards revealed that he’s currently in talks to direct one of the highly-anticipated Star Wars spin-off films… and while it seems nothing is certain, it’s likely to involve Mace Windu.
“Talking about it,” he said when directly asked about the rumour on Reddit. “Not able to say a lot yet. It will focus on Mace Windu.”
Of course, we haven’t seen anything of the Jedi master since his apparent demise in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. But if the rumours are true, it could be a fitting send off for one of the coolest Jedi in the galaxy.
But will the rumoured film take place before Revenge of the Sith or after?
Although there’s been much discussion about his ‘death’, I think it’s safe to say that the Mace Windu spin-off film is likely to be set before the events of Revenge of the Sith. And it could even tie up a few loose ends that were left dangling after the cancellation of The Clone Wars.
But will Samuel L. Jackson return?
We’ve already heard plenty of times from the man himself that he’s more than keen to return to the galaxy far, far away.
“I want to be in Star Wars,” he explained in an earlier interview. “J.J’s Star Wars… I mean, come on. Jedi fall from incredible heights and a lot of them have lived with one hand… I think I could handle it.”
I can’t help thinking that if Samuel L. Jackson wants to return, then Disney should jump on the opportunity. And perhaps that’s exactly what’s happened. But will this rumoured spin-off ever make it to our screens? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
