Gemini Man just added Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 33-year-old actress will be joining Will Smith in the upcoming sci-fi flick by Ang Lee.
“Mary Elizabeth Winstead has nabbed the female lead in Gemini Man, the Will Smith action thriller that Ang Lee is directing,” they revealed. “Skydance and Paramount are behind the project, which is eyeing a February start.”
But who will she be playing?
Will Smith will star in two confirmed roles – as Henry, an ageing assassin who’s trying to get out, and his ultimate opponent which turns out to be a clone of himself, 25-years-younger and in peak physical condition.
“[Mary Elizabeth] Winstead, who beat out Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany for the role, will play an operative who works for the same company as Henry and has been ordered to surveil him. However, she soon teams up with him.”
It certainly sounds like an interesting concept… and I do love the casting.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead was just marvellous in the recent 10 Cloverfield Lane, and with a starring role in Gemini Man, she might just make a name for herself as a leading sci-fi genre actress.
Not to mention, Clive Owen is in talks for a villainous role, as the head of the shadow corporation which both Will Smith and Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s characters work for.
I have to admit, I’m rather excited by this one. It sounds like an intriguing concept, and with some excellent casting choices, it could be another sci-fi hit for Smith and Owen.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Gemini Man stars Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Clive Owen.
Ang Lee will direct, based on a script by David Benioff.
Gemini Man heads to cinemas on 4 October 2019.
